’70s Style Revival

Since it’s throwback Thursday, only makes sense we talk about the major ’70s style revival going on in the world of fashion right now.

Ever since I watched The Factory (Sienna Miller as Edie Sedgwick is everything) like 10 years ago, I became obsessed with that generation. I am not talking like kinda into it, I was fixated. I dressed the part (head scarves on the daily), watched the movie a ridiculous amount of time (basically taking mental notes on what to wear/how to act/music to listen to/etc.), bought a record player, & literally travelled back in time for a good 2 years.

I even had an Andy Warhol/Edie Sedgwick themed 21st birthday party, complete with a Campbell soup wall (my friends printed out a hundred Campbell soup cans, colored them different colors, & taped them on an entire wall), syringes filled with jello shots (borderline inappropriate), the movie playing on repeat in the background, & I wore the cutest vintage crochet bell sleeve dress with… of course… a head scarf & some intense winged eyeliner. It was def. one for the books.

So yes- I am over the moon to bring back my love for Edie with this look & definitely plan to incorporate all sorts of ’70s vibes into my Summer wardrobe!

Favorite ’70s trends of the moment

1. Bell Sleeves: I love a good bell sleeve of any type, all about that flowy movement! My favorites currently are this navy Bardot style off the shoulder dress (tip: a belt is a quick way to add a little shape to a garment and/or to shorten it a bit!) & this superrrrr pretty smocked romper. Super into shades of blue for Summer as well!

2. Oversized Sunnies: Well… eh… not just a ’70s trend, but loving the ’70s spin on this forever trend w/ the fun sunglass shapes & colors I have been seeing lately. I am so so so obsessed with these huge ass hexagon shades & these rose colored Ray-Ban’s (on my bday wishlist!)

3. Chunky Platforms: All about the chunky wooden heel vibe right now- the chic clog. These lace-up ones by Kenneth Cole are pretty major, but I also love this more affordable version!

4. Headwear: When it comes to ’70s style, it’s alllll about the headwear! My personal favorite head accessories are scarves– I love this one to tie around your head the way I did or this super long skinny scarf to wear more like a headband. Also, no brainer, floppy suede hats!

5. Maxi Dress: I mean, regardless, a summer essential, but to put a more retro spin on it go for something with a throwback print, like this paisley number, or something super flowy like this leopard print stunner (which comes with a seperate scarf, that you can wear on your head… just saying?!).

6. Huge Flares: we all know, I am a sucker for a good flare, so naturally this had to be included. For a more Michelle Pfeiffer Scarface vibe, go for a chic jumpsuit with major bells, If you’re looking for something a bit more casual, I am all about flared denim overalls (paired with a flowy off the shoulder bell sleeve blouse please!)– OR, keep it basic with a just an epic pair of bell bottom jeans (these are just too damn good & on sale!!).

Have you guys noticed the ’70s coming back in a big way? It’s basically Summer of ’69, in 2016 & I am def. not mad about it. Shop this look + even more ’70s inspired faves below! x, erica
