A Valentine’s Day DIY: Cupid’s Arrows

Fashionlush Valentine's Day DIY Gift

You know when you buy something that you don’t know why you bought it & it sits around collecting dust for years and years?

Yea… w/ my lil’ shopping addiction, that’s pretty much a norm in my life.

It was also the case with a set of two hideous brown arrows I once thought I needed. When moving into my new place, my friend told me to toss them, but for some reason or another- I decided against it. Hoarding problems.

Good thing, cause the other day I was trying to brainstorm a cute V-day DIY project while cleaning my room (always multi-tasking), I found those ugly arrows tucked far away in a hidden corner & that little lightbulb went off.

Valentine’s Day = Cupid = Arrows = Love = done & done.

Not only are these hand-painted arrows a great gift for your Valentine, but they also work as home decor all year long.

Supplies Needed::

+ Paint pens.

+ Bakery twine or any type of string.

+ Gold leaf or chunky gold glitter.

+ White feathers.

+ An array of acrylic paints, depending on your color scheme. I chose mint/ peach/ black/ white.

How to::

1. Paint your arrow white as your base.

2. Using your colored acrylic paints, start to decorate your arrow shaft. Think stripes/ dots/ little triangles. Get weird & creative- if you mess up, just paint over it w/ white again.

3. For your arrowhead paint it w/ your gold leaf or (if you don’t have gold leafing paint or pen) you can paint it with Mod Podge & dip it in gold glitter for a metallic effect.

4. Decorate your feathers!! My arrow came with feathers, but they were seriously DRAB- so I replaced them w/ my own hand-painted ones. Keep it in the color scheme of your arrows and use your paint pen for fun added details.

Lastly::

+ For the feathers, wrap the “stem” of your feather to connect it to the arrow with bakers twine (personal fave) or string.

+ For the arrowhead, wrap just above it.

+ Add a dab of superglue to keep your string in place on both ends.
