#BrunchSoHard | Top Spots in San Diego

brunch-san-diego

Brunching is my absolute favorite past time. My weekends are typically planned around brunch, we are always trying new places, & I like to study menus the night before so I know what to order when I get there.

YA- I’m a little psycho when it comes to brunch, but at this point… I like to think I know my shit when it comes to doing brunch in San Diego.

So, whether you live here or are just visiting, here are 5 brunch spots at the top of my list… in no particular order, cause they’re all equally bomb in their own way!:

1. Herringbone: we just went here for the first time yesterday & it was amazing. I love pretty much all seafood, so this spot is right up my alley.

We started the meal with muddled basil mimosas, the most delish oyster sampler, & some bomb ceviche. For our main course we shared the baked french toast (coated in cereal) & the stone crab avocado toast. Both of these dishes were the stuff dreams are made of. INSANE.

For good measure we got some of their much talked beignets to go. I highly suggest this.

2. Little Lion Cafe: this place is a total gem! it’s in Ocean Beach, which is just the cutest little beach town, & the food is so clean & delicious.

I either go for the smoked salmon entree (comes w/ all sorts of good stuff) or the spirulina mermaid bowl. They also have outdoor seating- so we love the fact we can bring the dogs.

3. Kindred: vegan food x amazing insta-worthy decor x death metal music. That’s the Kindred vibe, & it’s pretty amazing. I’m not vegan, but I still love this spot.

I order the smoked carrot & arugula. It’s a total play on lox w/ capers…  & surprisingly tastes like the real deal. The banana bread french toast is also next level.

4. Flower Child: I have been seeing this place all over the gram lately, so I made a point we try it out this weekend & it def. lived up to the hype.

I ordered a some sorta bowl, which ended up being a weird/wrong choice for brunch. Long lines make me feel pressured… & when I am pressured, I will just order whatever on the menu. The bowl was super bomb, but I really wished I had gotten the insane looking avocado toast paired with rose lemonade AND a coconut in the shell (yes- just ask!).

Oh ya- the olive oil lemon cupcakes are so good!!!

5. Breakfast Republic: if you’re looking for a real WOW breakfast, & not counting calories, Breakfast Republic is the spot.

Drink wise, we always get their amazing bloody mary’s & along with an order of their flight of antioxidant shots for good measure.

For food- I am a fan of the San Diego Benedict (turkey, avo, cilantro) & Zack alternates between the breakfast mac & cheese, the Elvis french toast (stuffed with peanut butter and banana fosters), & the s’mores french toast. **p.s. I hate him for getting to eat like that & stay so damn svelte** RUDE.

Okay so check ’em out, tell me what you think, & if I am missing any major brunch moments in SD- please do share!! I will be there asap. x, E

  1. You’re making me want to come to San Diego immediately. Detroit does have some really good brunch spots, but they are few and far between and always have the most insane waits. I can’t wait for the weather to be a little nicer when we can go sit at one of our favorite places outside on the patio for hours drinking mimosas…
