First & foremost though, we picked a name for the newcomer!!! It took us about 5 days to really get to know her personality, & Ruby Tuesday was the PERFECT fit. & yes, there is lots of Rolling Stones being played in the house currently… ya know, so she knows where her name came from.

Now, as for how our first week of being new puppy parents went. Spoiler alert: I am overwhelmed AF.

Did you know there is such thing as the “puppy blues”? It’s like post-partum depression, but for puppies. You’d think having a puppy around would be all hearts & butterflies, but it’s note. YES, there are a ridiculous amount of adorable things that happen throughout the day with the little one, but it’s also very hard work.

It’s been 11 years since Bitzy was a puppy, so I was definitely rusty in this department and I 100% forgot how hard it is. I’ve gone through a series of emotions w/ the arrival of Ruby. At first I was optimistic & excited. Then, we got home, & Bitzy hated her… which is when the guilt set in. I thought Bitzy hated me & getting a puppy would make her age faster.

Next, this one is weird, jealousy. I was jealous for Bitzy because I felt that Bitzy was yearning for attention from Zack & he was very enamored with the puppy. Of course he was still loving on the B, but I was being overly sensitive.

Then, sad to say, I was mad at Ruby. She peed in Bitzy’s favorite place in the world, the teepee, & Bitzy refused to go in it. I felt HORRIBLE for my eldest & then I felt horrible because I had to lay down the law with Ruby (very gently, cause she is such a baby!). Those sad sad puppy eyes nearly bring to tears.

Now, I am so HAPPY we have this little alien in our lives. Exhausted beyond belief, but thrilled. Like a new parent, I suppose.

If you are thinking about getting a puppy, you need to know- it’s NO JOKE. I’ve stepped in poop atleast 6x this week, she peed on my shoes & our bed, chewed through my computer screen (ugh!!), screams when we leave her for one second (more on this in a bit), & she drives Bitzy off the walls (although she is starting to adjust).

I’m not saying it’s not worth it, because it totally is, I am just saying- be prepared for your life to be put on hold for a bit (cause we def. weren’t!).

At the end of the day though- her puppy breath, fat tummy, cuddliness, & overall sweet personality bring us such joy. We really are obsessed, even if she is farting up the whole house (it’s a frenchie thing… so I hear. Ruby sure can clear a room w/ one tiny toot!).

Now, for other non-puppy related stuff.

I get a ton of my best health & wellness tips from my dentist’s assistant (kinda random). Not like I am always at the dentist, but when I am, I pick her brain big time. The latest thing she turned me onto is Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides (100% not sponsored!!).

The assistant has gorgeous hair down to her knees, & she said this stuff has been making it grow like a weed. Since I am always looking for the hair growth miracle, I ordered it ASAP.

Still waiting on those results, but I can say I am digging this stuff. It tastes like nothing, I add it to my water everyday, & it definitely gives me energy and help ease my joint pain. It’s also said to improve skin tone & texture, helps maintain weight, boosts immunity, promotes healthy digestion & supports the central nervous system!

I also hear it’s cured some peoples back pain, & since I have a spinal fracture- I hope is helps me!!

vegan  brunch + bloody mary’s + heavy metal music at the oh-so-chic (marble city!) Kindred. If you live in San Diego or plan to visit- it’s a must!!

We were SO nervous about going to brunch & leaving the puppy, but we were both stir crazy. We decided it’d be a great idea to download a puppy camera app so we can watch the pup while away & see how long she cries.

Sadly, this wasn’t the best idea. We spent the whole brunch staring at the phone & seeing her cry for just about the entire time. It was painful & the anxiety was severe. While we were eating we asked for the bill so we could jet out of there before our neighbors called animal services. She was literally screaming bloody murder.

HOW DO I FIX THIS? If you guys have any seperation anxiety tips, help me!!! I can’t be stuck inside much longer.

  1. Taking my pup to daycare really helped! I only took Happy there for about 3 weeks, but he learned to live without me for small periods of time, adjusted to having crate time and play time, and I didn’t have any anxiety about him annoying the neighbors! I went to a reputable local doggie daycare center which I found and decided to use after an intense FBI-style research session.

The lady at the daycare also taught me some life saving tips:
    – Don’t make a big deal out of leaving, no excessive good-byes
    – Place a blanket over the crate, turn off the lights
    – Play the radio softly (I put on the local rock station)
All in all, it took about 2 months for my pup to adjust to me being gone.

    Hope lil’ Ruby adjusts soon!

    1. Thank you thank you thank you for the tips!!! Once she gets her shots I want her to do daycare! Love the FBI reference- I am so so so anal about the dogs too!!! The blanket over the crate was something I was curious about doing so thank you!!
