WTF is Bentonite Clay + Why I’m Chugging It

ingesting bentonite clay

For being a die-hard anti-procrastinator, I have been procrastinating BIG time on this post. No joke, it’s been sitting in my iPhoto for atleast 2 weeks. YIKES (make me nuts!!!).

I have two solid reasons for this: first, I wanted to give it a solid trial run so I could really share my experience & secondly because I was embarrassed.

I mean- first I tell you guys I swish coconut oil in my mouth for 20 minutes each day, & now I am telling you I drink clay? You must think I am totally bat shit, & I can’t say I don’t blame you. It sounded nuts to me at first too.

Yet since the oil pulling post was a huge hit & helped so many people, I just figured… whyyyy not?

It all started when someone sent me the link to an interview with Shailene Wooley talking about her natural/holistic lifestyle & she mentioned two things: Oil Pulling & Bentonite Clay drinking. Hmm… I’ve already become obsessed w/ OP-ing, so why not give this a go as well?

Although my sister/ mom/ dad/ friends are convinced I have lost it completely, I did my fair share of research- & it legitimately makes real & total sense as to why this stuff rocks. Read on peeps…

benefits of bentonite clay

Lemme break it down for you in the most simple way I possibly can, K?

Clay carries negative electrical charges, & impurities (i.e. nasty toxins) carry positive electrical charges. So, when we chug a daily glass of clay, those negative charges attract the positive charges, & then our body gets rid of them by… ya know. Any questions?

& no… this isn’t some crazy weird fad. It’s actually been practiced for decades & decades & decades by hundreds of cultures all over the world to promote a healthier life.

bentonite clay for health

Now for the how to::

Wake up in the AM, & after you Oil Pull (hehe), mix together 8 ounces of purified H20 w/ 1-2 teaspoons of 100% Bentonite clay. Now, chug or sip- that’s up to you. As for the taste, I mean it’s clay… but it really isn’t that hard to stomach.

++ Tip: be sure to keep your clay away from metals & if you are taking prescription meds or have high blood pressure, please consult your doc first! ++

drinking bentonite clay

It’s been two weeks of me drinking this lovely cocktail, & so far I’ve noticed that my skin has begun to clear up (which has been a battle over the last few months), my energy levels are through the roof, & it may even be helping w/ my gluten intolerance. I am not quite sure about the last one yet, but I ate a gluten-y treat this past weekend and felt FINE- which is rare for me after eating anything gluten.

As far as chugging it, well, the oil pulling is going great so far so I’ll have to take your word on this as well ;)

  2. Yes it feels weird first to drink it, I still hate it but am doing it because it’s good for the body. If you want to really heal the body clay is a good way to start with, but I recommend to go on and read Donna Pessin’s book Unique Healing.x

  3. I am going to try this! I have been oil pulling for a month now and it’s been great! This is safe to do everyday, right?

  5. I have had such wonderful results with oil pulling (Thanks!), I thought I would give this a go as well. I’m just a bit concerned because the jar says for external use only?

    1. It does- but according to my research their certification allows the to sell it for cosmetic use, yet the ingredients of the product is the same as the ones people get for taking internally.

  6. I would love to try this, but you mentioned to keep it away from metals…I have a monroe piercing which the back is inside my lip sooo would what would happen?

    1. Hmm– that’s a good question, but personally, I think it’d be fine. You just don’t want to store it near metals!
