Non Basic Ways to Wear Denim this Fall

fashionlush fall 2017 fashion seventies revivalseventies denim trends, fall 2017

I probably wear way too much denim, but I just can’t help myself. I am not shy to go full on Brittany & JT circa 2000 with a denim on denim combo, & I am forever hunting for new denim styles to add to the sea of denim in my closet.

& this Fall, the denim trends are on fire.

I am all about having good basics in your wardrobe (plain skinnies, some good bootcuts, etc.), but when the seasons change, it’s always fun to add in some out of the box pieces to your wardrobe.

One major denim trend I have noticed, which now that I think about it… it’s more of a general Fall fashion trend, is the seventies are definitely back.

We went from the nineties straight to the seventies, which is good in my book cause I am not down with the 80’s style trends… although I could use a little 70’s movie night marathon to get some style inspo. From here on out, I will be channeling my inner Penny Lane.

Now- for the good stuff, read on to scope my personal favorite denim trends of the moment!

Top Fall 2017 Denim Trends

i. little denim dresses

I guess this one doesn’t apply to everyone- but for my west coasters trying to deal w/ this heat wave, denim dresses are a much more doable than a pair of skinny jeans!  Plus you can dress ’em up with some fun heels or go casual with a crisp pair of white sneakers. If you do live somewhere cooler, this dress would look rad over a pair of denim bell bottoms or black flares (if Canadian tuxedos aren’t your thing).

ii. raw denim & exposed stitches

Like I said, tis’ the season of the seventies revival! Up until now, I wasn’t super down with raw denim, but now that I am seeing it everywhere/on everyone… I am really feeling it. Especially when you throw in some read white stitching details.

iii. extra large denim bells

seventies throwback number 2- but this one is EXTRA exciting for me because I have always been a sucker for a good pair of flares. I swear- they are the most flattering & always make me look so much taller.

iv. the denim jumpsuit

alright, one more seventies denim revival for ya. The denim jumpsuit. This gives me ALL the feels. Overalls are fun for Summer, but denim jumpsuits are where it’s at for Fall.

v. patchwork & reconstructed denim jackets

This is kinda the new take on distressed denim, with a reconstructed twist. Think vintage Levi jackets cropped, patched, reworked, shearling added, etc. Jean jackets are my jam, so I am definitely feeling this trend.

vi. side striped jeans

This trend is so fun & so edgy! I love a good pair of jeans, but I love a good pair of jeans with a little flare even more. I have a pair of dark denim skinny jeans with red stripes down the side & not only did I literally get stopped in the street when I wore them, but hey are so elongating! The vertical stripes do wonders for the legs.
