Print is NOT Dead… & these independant magazines prove it

fashionlush independant magazines prove print is not dead

I may love my computer, but I still have a strong strong passion for all things print…

… minus gossip magazines. Two years ago I was actually addicted to gossip mags, but I made it a resolution to never buy one again, & I have almost stuck to that rule (I may buy one on my way to the beach once a year- but that’s it!!).

My boyfriend actually makes a beautiful skateboard zine (shout out to Typical Culture & my creative boy), which kinda got me in the swing of loving independant magazines. We then would go to Europe, & I was always drawn to the artsy magazines you’d find in all the shops & even the airport (Europeans have way better airport reading material).

Soon after, it became a weird obsession. I spend hours on the interwebs looking at rad print. It’s a great source of inspiration for me actually! The design in some of these independant magazines are flawless & the articles always get my creative juices flowing.

SO- today, I am sharing with you guys some definitive proof that PRINT IS DEFINITELY NOT DEAD. It’s alive, & cooler than ever.

Read on, check it out, & if you have a zine or know of one I need to check out- LMK!!

Print Magazines You Should DEF Check Out:

01. The Messy Heads: First issue was all about discovering who you are on the inside, second issue is all about straying from the conventional path, third issue is all about finding a home beyond a physical space, & the recent issue is all reader submitted art/poetry/design/etc. The magazine has a tone of thought provoking pieces, & some of the most insanely design collages I have ever seen. SO MUCH INSPO, thank you Messy Heads.

02. Kinfolk: Kinfolk is a classic, & I wanted this post to be a bit more off the beaten path, but I can’t NOT include my favorite. Kinfolk is more of a book/magazine hybrid & it’s FLAWLESS. It’s full of beautiful photographs, minimalistic design, & content that really gets your wheels turning. Also, this Fall they are coming out with Kinfolk Entrepreneur & I really couldn’t be more excited!

03. 032C: I got this magazine on my birthday, Bella was on the cover, & it still sits happily on my coffee table. It is published twice a year, features fashion & art, & the glossy pages will blow your mind. The copy I got came with a t-shirt iron on featuring Bella Hadid’s cover shot  it was the COOLEST thing to ever include in a magazine. It’s probably one of the prettiest magazines I have ever seen, & the words on the pages will suck you in. 032C is A MUST for an print lover.

Independent Print Magazines Are Not Dead: Here's A List Of Rad Independent Magazine

04. Dope Girls Zine: for the Mary Jane lovers, Dope Girls Zine is gonna be right up your alley. It’s, obviously, all about cannabis- & presented in a really creative & fun way. There are some recipes, fun graphics, articles similar to the “the zen of cleaning stoned” & the list goes on. Volume IV is available for pre-order & they sell out quick so GET YOURS (yes, I def. got mine!)

05. Sofa Universe: This one is OUT OF THE BOX & I love it. The graphics are next level cool- kind of a Kawaii meets the 2000’s vibe. The first volume was about TODAY’S TEEN, influencers, & entrepreneurs. Volume two is “what are cyber hearts made of”… which is just that, all about cyber love (Catfish vibes?).

06. Rookie Mag: Tavi Gevinson is the OG blogger (Style Rookie), starting at the age of 12, & now… at just 21 years old, she has created her own feminist fueled empire. All of it, every inch of it, is RAD.  She created the Rookie Yearbook a few years ago, & it’s pretty spectacular. She has a super creative eye, the graphics are insane, & the content is full of important tidbits we all need to read.

  1. Rad! This is so great. I also love hard copies of anything I read – I refuse to read a book on a device. It’s just not the same!
