My Thoughts on NYFW (It’s Not For Everybody)

Whenever I think of fashion week I always flashback to college when going to fashion week was like getting the golden ticket to go to Willy Wonka factory. At that time, rumor had it girls were selling there eggs just to get there.

The whole thing seemed cool, but completely out of reach for my 21 year old self. It was for the Anna Wintour’s of the fashion world.

Fast forward to current day… going to fashion week is very much in reach & I have just never had the desire to go.

Actually, I really have never had the desire to go to New York in general, which for some reason really shocks people… “you haven’t been to NEW YORK?! OMG. You’d love it, you wear all black, IT’S JUST SO YOU.”

Really? Cause I don’t think I’d love it & it’s seems very much not me.

Some people thrive on that fast paced go-go-go lifestyle, but I’m the opposite. I like to do things at my own pace. I also have pretty bad anxiety, which I don’t think would do well in the bustling city.

As for fashion week, I love seeing it all on Instagram. The shows, the street style, it looks amazing for sure… but again, busy busy. I respect the bloggers who can go to fashion week & keep up with their audience & the blog… but more often than not, fashion week gets the best of bloggers & they can often drop off. The blog ends up getting lost in all of it, but the blog is the reason you’re there.

It’s very important to me to be social & provide good on the go content, but it is most important to me to be connecting with you guys. Basically, if I had to choose spending my day at a fashion show versus writing you guys a bomb ass super informative post- I’d opt for the latter.

I once asked a friend how things go down at NYFW, semi-interested in possibly going, & she said “you don’t even need to go into the shows, just go outside & try to get shot by street style photographers!”

She sounded excited by this… & I was genuinely confused. Why? Why fly all the way to New York to stand in the cold outside shows to get street style photos. It just didn’t seem like the smartest way to spend my time when I could be working on a future product launch (**wink wink**) or extra time connecting with you guys.

Now, if the right work oppurtunity presented itself in New York during fashion week, that’d be one thing. But it seems like it’s more of a vacation for a lot of the influencers travelling to New York during this time & if I am gonna take a mid year vacay, it’s gonna be somewhere a little more mellow/relaxing.

Different stroke for different folks, ya feel?

So- what do you guys think about NYFW? Fashion week FOMO, or no? LMK! x, E

  1. I’m definitely not a fashion blogger, so for me personally I never saw the appeal or the benefit.

  2. I am on the exact same page. I have been to some of these brunches and events, which i am assuming are just a smaller version of NYFW, and I always leave feeling a little defeated & let down. It’s more of a competitive atmosphere versus a constructive/creative environment.
