Pantone 2018 Color of the Year: UV Purple

fashionlush, pantone color of the year, uv purple

CONGRATS UV PURPLE, YOU DID IT ???!! Our new Pantone 2018 color of the year has arrived, & surprisingly- I am feeling it.

I have spent many years hating purple. I once had a friend (shout out to Allie, wherever you are, miss you) who had a visceral reaction to the color purple. She could barely look at it, & I think if I sat with a therapist, they’d say her hatred for the color rubbed off on me.

Then, Pantone says it’s the color of the year… & I’m all of the sudden obsessed with all things purple. I got my nails done UV purple, I am wearing UV purple, & I am buying UV purple (cause currently I only own two pieces of purple clothing & have already been trying to rock them everyday).

What Pantone says goes (remember- they called it with millennial pink in 2016), so just watch… cause PURPLE, specifically of the ultra violet variety, IS GONNA BE HUGE.

When it comes to the science of purple, I’m even more on board w/ this decision. Purple has the strongest wavelength of electromagnetic energy & often associated with the cosmos, which is pretty cool in itself. It also symbolizes magic, spirituality, creativity, compassion, inspiration, kindness, imagination, meditation, intuition, & is all around considered a calming color.

It has even been said the color purple is a tool used to help with mental disorders- such as anxiety. SO, I def. need more purple around me.

Purple is also very bougie, the royals are all about purple.

PANTONE SUMS UP THEIR DECISION PRETTY NICELY…

“Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.

Enigmatic purples have also long been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality. Nuanced and full of emotion, the depth of PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.

Historically, there has been a mystical or spiritual quality attached to Ultra Violet. The color is often associated with mindfulness practices. Which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today’s over-stimulated world. The use of purple-toned lighting in meditation spaces and other gathering places energizes the communities that gather there and inspire connection.”

SO- are you guys team purple or nah? Supposedly it’s also a color that people either LOVE or HATE- so weigh in! If you’re on the love side, keep reading! x, E
