My Waist Training Experience (yup, I tried it!)

I am the queen of sipping on the Kool-aid & buying all the snake oil Dr.Oz (totally thought he was a reliable source #naive) is slanging on the web.

So, when everyone from Snooki & the Kardashians to Beyonce & Scarlett Johanssen were sporting a waist trainer, my interest was peaked.

It wasn’t till Jessica Alba thanked waist training for her post-baby bod, that I knew I had to atleast try it. The Kardashians are fabulous, but I wouldn’t exactly call them trustworthy when it comes to all the things they were clearly paid to post on Insta. Alba on the other hand, being a mom who doesn’t post spammy mirror selfies with a waist trainer on, just seems a bit more relatable/real/honest.

If it wasn’t for the hopes of a killer bod like Alba, I atleast had to try it out in the name of research.

I know, you’re just dying to hear how it went plus my final thoughts! Here goes...

» First off, I got the Squeem ‘miracle waist’ waist trainer (in black) that a ton of fellow bloggers recommended as the best. I liked that, unlike other waist trainers, Squeem is actually most recognized for being shapewear– therefore the second you put it on you look toned & slim.

» This particular waist trainer mentioned the improvement of posture. I have horrific posture & horrible low back pain. A reader actually recommended waist training for this exact reason. The fact it says it will actually shrink my waist, although still unsure if it does, is just an added bonus.

» Putting it on the first time, can be tough– start with the looser set of clasps & gradually work your way to the tighter ones over a few days (per the instructions). I first put it on upside down & then had to get all the clasps, but it wasn’t too bad & I was just gonna wear it for one hour.

» How the first hour went? Well, pretty good. I wasn’t uncomfortable at all, I looked good having it on under a tighter tee (holds everything in great!), & I was sitting up straighter all day. I didn’t want to over do it, so I took it off. after the hour was up. I continued on with 1-1.5 hours of it a day, no problem

» I opted not to work out in it yet. I do plan to walk in it, but since some sources say it can restrict breathing while working out, I am holding off on anything rigorous (I hate working out enough as it is).

» Did my waist look smaller? Yes! Under clothes, absolutely. Did my waist get smaller? I think so, a few of my jeans were def. fitting a little looser, but I am unsure of the permanency of this shift after one big meal & skipping a day??? Hmmm….

» Will I continue to waist train? Yes! Mainly because it helps my posture, but also because how tiny it makes my waist look under clothes (remember, it’s also shapewear!).

» disclaimer: do your own research to see if waist training is right for you! Don’t over do it, don’t do it too tight to the point of horrible pain, & if you feel lightheaded/dizzy take the thing off! No small waist is worth your health. K?

soooo— have you guys tried waist training? If so, I’d love to hear about YOUR experience!

x, E

  1. Hey Erica, so glad someone who I consider a credible source of information tried it out! I have bad posture, too and have been wanting to try it for that exact reason. The illusion of a smaller waist doesn’t hurt, either! Thanks for the review!

  2. So glad to read an article on this from someone I actually trust as an A+ source for info!! I would totally try it just for posture purposes and smooth lines when wearing a tight t-shirt <3
