Fashion Hack | DIY Off The Shoulder Top

The other day I was at the BF’s house when I realized I literally had zero to wear. For once in my life, I didn’t pack enough clothes. Instead of wearing the shirt I wore the day before, I started browsing through Zack’s button ups.

I grabbed this crispy white one & threw it on over my jean shorts. I dug it, but it was also pretty boxy. When I got home, I had the genius (yes, tooting my own horn on this one, cause it’s just that good!) idea to cut it up & craft it into something a bit more chic.

I have been seeing these rad off the shoulder button ups everywhere lately & the menswear vibes with a sexy twist is right up my alley. I dusted off the trusty old sewing machine (literally, haven’t used that thing in ages) & got to werk.

Sometimes these things turn out a bust since my sewing skills aren’t up to par, but to my pleasant surprise, the end result pretty much hit it out of the park! Definitely one of my fave creations to date.

Apologize to your boyfriend’s for me, cause they may not be over the moon when all their button ups start disappearing (sorry Zack!).

x, E

DIY Off The Shoulder Top

» mens button up

» sewing scissors

» sewing machine, & the ability to use it! If you can’t sew on the machine, ask your sister/mom/friend, it’s super easy so I doubt they will mind helping you out.

» sewing pins

» 1 inch elastic

1. Cut the collar & top off your shirt, 3-4 inches above the chest pockets.

2. Flip your blouse inside out, & fold over the top edge you just cut & pin. This “tube” you created should be about 1 inch wide.

3. Using the pins as a guide, sew w/ a straight stitch, stopping about 1 inch before you reach the end. You want to leave this open to feed through the elastic (next step!).

4. Safety pin the elastic the opening to secure it while you feed the other end of your elastic through the tube of fabric.

5. Once you have fed the elastic all the way through, remove the safety pin from the other end & pin the two ends together. Sew them together with a straight stitch.

6. Sew the tube shut the rest of the way & you’re good to go!
