My Rapunzel Hair Mask ft. Coconut Oil (Duh!!)

Fashionlush Natural Hair Growth Mask

So, after I did my post on Oil Pulling, I was getting asked over and over and over again- “How do you use coconut oil for hair growth?’.

I get it. Trust. This may be superficial, but one of my lifelong goals is to have long long long Rapunzel-esque hair. I can’t help but stare hard when I see someone with a head of long flowing Pantene hair. I try not to be jealous of people (it’s not a classy trait), but that is one thing that absolutely turns me green with envy.

So, when it comes to hair I have seriously tried every chemical-filled product that promises mermaid hair on the market, & guess what? Fail after fail after fail.

Not surprised really, it’s always the natural DIY products that end up doing me any good, so I did my research & a few months back I stumbled upon a hair mask that has literally changed my hair game.

You’re welcome ;) xx, E

Fashionlush Coconut Oil for Hair

:: Ingredients / Why they work!! ::

++ 2 tsp. Olive Oil: Olive Oil is great great great for your hair & it’s growth for a few reasons.

○ It helps to prevent the production of an icky hormone called DTH which is a big culprit in hair loss & thinning.

○ It also helps keep your scalp healthy as it is loaded with antioxidants (which can even reverse damage from hot tools/hair products).

○ Lastly, massaging it into your scalp helps blood circulation which will stimulate the hair follicles & promote thicker/healthier hair.

++ 2 tsp. Coconut Oil: Oh ya know- just my all time favorite thing ever.

○ It helps seal in the moisture in your hair which keeps it strong & moisturized. Coconut Oil is magical in the sense it can actually penetrate the shaft of your hair, getting it moisturized from the inside out. That moisture can protect your hair from heat damage & environmental impurities.

○ Coconut Oil’s anti-bacterial & anti-fungal properties actually protect the scalp from dandruff & head lice (ew) which are 2 things that can greatly halt your hair growth.

○ It’s full of nutrients like vitamin E, vitamin K, & Iron. All of which are key in keeping your hair soft & shiny. Vitamin E is also helpful in preventing & getting rid of dandruff, which as I said before- can really stop your hair from growing.

○ Again, just like Olive Oil, Coconut Oil when massaged into your scalp can stimulate circulation which will make your hair healthy & promote growth.

++ 1 tsp. Honey: Who knew honey wasn’t just for a cup of tea…

○ Honey is a natural antioxidant that can help provide you with a healthy scalp, & a health scalp stimulates hair growth.

○ Since honey is an emollient, it will also help improve the health of your hair follicles. Hair follicles are actually responsible for hair growth, so making sure they are healthy is key.

○ Honey is also a humectant, which means it can hold in moisture which also helps promote a healthy & moisturized scalp as well as strong hair follicles, all of which prevent hair from falling out.

++ 1/2 Avocado: My favorite food, in my hair?! Yup.

○ For your hair to be healthy, which promotes growth, you need healthy fats & proteins. Avocados are literally FULL of healthy fats, omega-3, and biotin (i.e. the hair vitamin).

WHEW- that’s a lot of info. But now you know why this little magic potion will make your hair healthy, strong, & super duper long!!!

  1. What if you have super super thick hair, you just want it to get longer, can you double the recipe?

  2. so… small question – does this glorious mixture mask not clog the ish out of your shower drain? What do you do?!

  3. Will def try this! Do you have any problems washing it off? I’m afraid the honey plus oils will make it hard to wash off

  4. There was once I used bananas n I had a hard time removing them from my hair. 5. This sounds great! While I do have long hair, it’s in terrible condition and this sounds like the perfect, natural way to get it back on track! Thank you!

  6. It’s so awesome to see Coconut Oil getting the attention it deserves! I’m Indian, and everybody has been putting coconut oil in our hair (men and women) for generations! One of my distinct childhood memories is my mom rubbing coconut oil into my hair while I watched cartoons :)

  7. Wait, other people suffer from crippling hair envy? It’s not JUST ME!? I have it bad! I’m putting this mash together and getting started. Thank you! What did you notice changed? And how soon?

    1. My hair has been SO much softer- which is great cause I am used to dry/frizzy/dull locks. It also seems to have grown a bit– & I always notice when my hair grows cause I am such a freak about it!!

  8. I just suffered a major hair loss due to the cold air attack from leaving window open. I keep feeling a burning sensation in my hair anywhere I am exposed to air conditioning. I learned cold air attack on your hair is a fact in losing your hair permenantly. I now need to hurry up and use monixidil to save my hair if its not already too late because my hair has already been sheding in flocks for 1 month now since the attack 6 weeks ago. My question is this: should I opt for your hair recipe, or should I use monixidil first for 9-12 months, then after use your hair mask. Or, is your hair mask is as effective as Monoxidil to simply use it & forget about Monoxidil. Please remember I suffered a hair loss attack. My hair is about 20% from the way it used to be, I’m so worried its gone for good. I am well aware hair alyways come back but not in situations like this. Thank you.

    1. I am not quite sure what Monoxidil is?? I would ask a dermatologist about this. Sorry to hear you’re experiencing those issues.

        1. hmmm- I would say go au naturale since I am not a fan of chemicals, but I do think a dermatologist would be good for you to talk to!

          1. If a dermatologist knows the importance of your hair mask. May be he does. I will check with one & let you know if severe cases are an exception. Just like you, I’m big on natural remedies. My kitchen is my pharmacy. My mom used olive oil on my hair my entire childhood, and I took over when I became a teenager. My hair used to drop to my hips and my hairdressers complemented me on the texture & health of my hair. When I stopped using olive oil, it took a several years before I noticed the difference. That proves you & your recipe to be 100% right. Ty.

          2. Yes yes yes! Love that, I mean it’s worth a try. I am sure Rogaine works great, but I feel that natural remedies are always the best. Good luck love.

  9. Can you triple the amount of all ingredients or more than triple but for avocado, like for example:4 tbs olive oil, 4 tbs coconut oil, 4 tbs honey + half avocado. Thank you.

  10. Hi! I’ve read that avocado skin has a lot of great properties that make it very beneficial to hair and skin. Do you leave the skin in or do you peel the avocado for the hair mask? Thanks!

    1. I used it weekly & saw growth when a month! I am not sure exactly why it helps, but I am sure it has to do with healthy hair = long hair! This makes your hair super healthy & strong.

          1. The best trick is to keep your hair health & strong! I also sleep with a fan on at night, but I don’t know if that’s a guarantee help or just an old wives tale :)

  11. Since this has fresh avocado in it. How long will it last before the avocado start to rot. Or is there something in there that naturally preserves it?
